Anorthosite

I've been practicing digital painting some more, and this time, I wanted to go for an impressionist feel instead of a perfectly smooth feel. I don't think this turned out quite as impressionist as I hoped, but I did figure out a lot about using the brush tool in SAI, so I think I'll be able to get an even more painted look soon.

Interestingly, I've been studying formal art theory and techniques for a few months now, and the more I learn about how to render realism, the less I seem to be able to draw the graphic-look of the official Sonic art. It's sort of a weird experience because I used to draw like that, so it's almost like I unlearned it.

I think the key will be to keep studying realism until I've really mastered all the rules then I can creatively break them in a more deliberate way to achieve the perfect style.
